The main hall of my high school was decorated with decades of senior class photos. One day, a boy a few years younger than me pointed to a face in the 1971 class. “That has to be your mom,” he said. And he was right.
I was amazed that the resemblance between my mom and me was so strong that he could pick her out of hundreds of faces. I was also pleased. I think my mom is beautiful, and it made me feel good to think I look something like her. But even more importantly, I love my mom, and so I like to be connected to her.
As a Christian, I have an even stronger desire to be connected to Jesus. When people see me, I want them to be reminded of Christ. I know I have a long way to go, but I am thankful that God loves me and that he is granting me the grace to become more like his son. What an honor that God would touch me with his transforming love and grace and that he would choose me to carry the image of Jesus! God, please help me to live a life that brings honor to your son.
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! … Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.” 1 John 3:1-3 NIV
