A couple of years after my mom passed away, I was at a baptism service. As I watched one of the girls being raised out of the water, I suddenly imagined my mom coming up out of her grave. That’s the strange, wonderful promise we Christians believe: “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.” Romans 6:4,5 NIV.

Just as sure as the pastor wasn’t going to leave those he baptized under the water, God will not leave those who put their faith in Jesus buried in their graves. Believing that should make a difference in how we’re willing to live our lives.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1
