I have a hard time making decisions. I tend to go back and forth and back again.
My husband knows this all too well. When we built our house, one of the hardest decisions I had to make was the exterior paint color. Overwhelmed with options, we had a very difficult time finding a color we liked. We bought five different samples and asked friends and family for advice. When we finally did find a color we liked, we worried that we wouldn’t like it once it covered the whole house. We even considered trying something else, but finally, we just started painting.
Being tossed back and forth on the waves of indecision is an awful place to be. It makes me feel anxious and upset, and I get nothing done.
God does not want us to be indecisive in our service to Him. He wants us to be absolutely committed to doing His will. When problems or temptations come, He does not want us to feel uncertain about our decision to be His servants. He wants us to make up our minds before we face trouble that no matter what happens, we will obey Him.
As long as we’re stuck debating our options, we can’t do the work God has prepared for us. Only when we make a commitment to Him are we able to move forward and accomplish good for His sake.
“Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’” Luke 9:62
