One of my favorite Christmas songs is the song “How Many Kings?” by the band Downhere. The chorus asks: “How many kings have stepped down from their thrones? How many lords have abandoned their homes? How many greats have become the least for me? How many gods have poured out their hearts, to romance a world that is torn all apart? How many fathers gave up their sons for me?”

That line about God romancing us in our brokenness captivates me. I’m astounded at the love God has for us and the lengths He has gone to to convince us to love Him in return so that we can be whole.

I pray that as we celebrate Christmas, we take time to ponder and meditate on the love behind Emmanuel, God with us. No love can compare.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8, NIV.

Your Turn: What is your favorite Christmas song? Why do you love it?
