I heard an ad inviting people to come to a special church service where they would be inspired to achieve their dreams. It made me think: Is church where I should go to be inspired to achieve my dreams?

The article, “No Guarantees” by Scott Wilson, gets at this issue. Here’s an excerpt: “As we walk with Christ, His grace increasingly shapes our dreams and we care more for His glory than our comfort. In fact, we realize difficulties are the path of spiritual growth, so we begin to welcome them as tutors to teach us life’s most important lessons. We pray, but the focus of our prayers changes from our happiness to a heartfelt desire that God receive honor and fame. Gradually, we come to the conclusion that life isn’t about us anymore: it’s about Christ.”

That’s the vision I hope churches everywhere inspire in attendees.

“And [Christ] died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15, NIV.
